The Name
Hippokampos is the Greek alliterative spelling of hippocampus. In Greek mythology, the hippocampi are the half horse, half fish creatures that pull Poseidon’s chariot. In latin, the hippocampus is the actual seahorse, and also a part of the brain. There is a picture on the internet showing the brain part next to the seahorse. If you look it up you will understand why they have the same name. The hippocampus in the brain is responsible for creating memories. So, our Hippokampos is our transport across the seas and our conduit for creating memories.
